FIG/IHO/ICA IBSC stakeholder seminar on Training and Education
11 November 2015
The FIG/IHO/ICA International Board on Standards of Competence will be holding a stakeholder seminar on training and education in hydrography and nautical cartography in Cape Town, South Africa on Tuesday 24th November. The workshop will take place during the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies' Hydro2015 conference.
Reference will be made to the 'Standards of Competence for
Hydrographic Surveyors' and the' Standards of Competence for Nautical
Cartographers' and the recent developments, current and future
efforts and the engagement of industry, institutions and regional groups will
be covered.
When looking for recognised courses for Hydrography and Nautical Cartography,
it's all too obvious that Africa is not served well. There are no current recognised courses across the continent.
The workshop offers an opportunity for academics, industry and potential students to gather and discuss the opportunities, what might be involved to develop an appropriate course and to get an update on the latest developments with regards to competencies.
The development of capacity to provide competent professionals
across various sectors should be a priority for many, so all are welcome to
attend and
contribute.
