THS UK to host UXO Surveys Seminar

5 April 2015

Immediately following Seawork International 2015 in Southampton, The Hydrographic Society UK is to stage a one-day seminar and table-top exhibition on Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Surveys, at Southampton Solent University Conference Centre on Friday 19 June.

Focussing on near and offshore marine environments including rivers and lakes, proceedings will look at methods for dealing with problems of unexploded wartime munitions and their associated identity and risks. Of particular interest to the hydrographic community, engineers and the general insurance industry, the event will address the concerns of all sectors of the marine industry including offshore oil and gas, marine renewables, port and terminal civil engineering and dredging.

Expressions of interest from prospective speakers are now sought with abstracts for presentations particularly welcome on lead topics such as Evaluation & Risk Assessment, Ordnance Detection Survey Design, Identification & Coordination, and Explosives Site Safety Management & Consultancy.  Informed views on new techniques and developments as well as actual case studies are also of specific interest.

Abstracts of 250 words together with author biographies are required by no later than 30 April and should be forwarded to uxo@ths.org.uk.

The seminar will be preceded by a ticketed evening social event on the evening of 18 June following closure of Seawork International, enabling delegates and others to celebrate this year's UN-sponsored World Hydrography Day.

For further information about delegate registrationexhibiting or sponsorship opportunities please visit the seminar webpages or contact uxo@ths.org.uk.
